This project develops and assesses the feasibility of Communication Skills Training (CST) interventions for health professionals (HPs) working with people with cancer from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. The CST interventions to be developed will address the unique and specific training needs that arise for oncology HPs in relation to CALD patients. Specifically, the study aims to identify the CST needs of health professions working with people with cancer from CALD backgrounds; develop an interactive online CST intervention targeting the training needs of HPs; develop a CST module regarding ‘working with interpreters’ to be included in as part of the online intervention. The online CST training program using vignettes-based professionally produced videos was developed through an iterative process with input from a large multidisciplinary team. This study is currently assessing the feasibility, uptake, acceptability and impact on perceived competence in communication skills of the online intervention.
